The Fiddler's Green Inn has grown through the years. The original Captain's House was built in the mid to late 19th century in the Neo-Colonial style by Captain Amasa Williams. He and his son, were the captains of the Squirrel Island ferry - one of the first steamer ferries in Maine. Amasa and his wife lived on their houseboat, docked on the harbor at the end of the front yard - (true Maine creative frugality) while they were building the house. We are fortunate to have some early photos and postcards of the Captain and his ferry, the Nellie G.. It is no longer moored in Boothbay Harbor, but visits the harbor annually during the antique boat parade of Windjammer Days in June.
And so the house has lived here quietly on the shores of Boothbay Harbor for many decades. Around 1996, it ventured into the realm of hospitality as "The Footbridge Inn".
Every owner has left his/her own imprint on the history - a history which we have now embraced. In the next few years, we hope to recapture some of the Inn's past and give it a little 21st century twist - our stamp!
We are caretakers of more than a home. We also plan to continue the legacy of personal hospitality begun by our predecessors.
Welcome to our home, the Fiddler's Green Inn. We look forward to meeting you.
